Conundrum Hot Springs
Natural hot spring or soaking spot in Colorado. Open for public access.
Pagosa Hot Spring is a natural soaking spot located in Colorado. This spot features natural hot spring. Always check current conditions and access rules before visiting.
Pagosa Springs sits on US-160, 65 miles east of Durango and about 4 hours southwest of Denver. The Mother Spring itself is a viewing area in downtown Pagosa Springs near the river; it is too hot to enter. The three commercial facilities are within walking distance of one another in the town center.
Year-round, but winter brings the iconic experience of soaking with snow falling around outdoor pools. The Springs Resort is open 24 hours; midnight soaking under stars is a signature offering. Weekday afternoons are quietest. Avoid peak ski-season weekends when Wolf Creek Ski Area drives crowds through town.
Day pass at The Springs Resort is approximately $59 (premium experience with 25+ pools). Healing Waters Resort is older and more affordable at approximately $15. The Overlook Hot Springs Spa charges around $25. Each facility has its own amenities and atmosphere. Resort lodging packages bundle pool access overnight.
The Mother Spring source temperature of 144°F can scald instantly; viewing only, no entry. Soaking pools are blended down to safe ranges (95 to 110°F). Limit soaks in the hottest pools to 15 minutes. Hydrate between sessions. The mineral content is high; remove silver jewelry before soaking to prevent tarnishing.
Wolf Creek Ski Area is a 20-mile drive east on US-160 (one of Colorado's snowiest mountains). Chimney Rock National Monument preserves Ancestral Puebloan ruins 17 miles west. Treasure Falls is a roadside waterfall stop. Mesa Verde National Park is a 2-hour drive south.
